John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on 3rd January 1892 in Bloemfontein in South Africa, where his father worked as a bank officer. His parents Mabel Suffield and Arthur Reuel Tolkien came from Birmingham. Tolkien's father died in 1895 while John, his brother and their mother were visiting relatives in England. John with his family then moved to village Sarehole, which lay near Birmingham. In 1900 Ronald started to go to King Edward's School. Because Ronald's mother didn't have enough money, she took both her sons to St. Philip's Grammar School, but Ronald got the scholarship and he could go back to the King Edward's School. In 1904 Tolkien's mother, who was a diabetic, died. Ronald together with his brother was sent to their aunt Beatrice Suffield, where they were living for the next four years.
In 1911 Tolkien went to the Oxford University, because he got the scholarship on Exeter College for the study of classic there. After exams in second year he was recommended to change the subject and study English, because he was interested in languages. In 1913 he started to study English, year after the First World War began. On 22nd March 1916 he married Edith Bratt and on 2nd June 1916 he was called to join the army and he left to France. But in 1917 he was dismissed, because he spent most of the year in the hospital, where he suffered from trench fever. During this time he started to write The Book of Lost Tales. After the war he got the job on Oxford English Dictionary. In 1920 he moved to English department in Leeds University. Here he became the professor of English language in 1924, but in 1925 he returned to Oxford, where he taught Anglo-Saxon and English language and literature. In 1959 he stopped teaching and in 1968 he and his wife moved to Bournemouth. At last Tolkien moved back to Oxford after death of his wife in 1971. On 28th August 1973 he went to Bournemouth for a visit. He was taken to the hospital on 30th August, where bleeding stomach ulcer was detected. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien died on 2nd September 1973 in Bournemouth.
Most famous book written by Tolkien is The Lord of the Rings. He was writing this epos for 13 years. In 1949 the trilogy was finished, it has 1300 pages and 134-page addition.
You can find here details about old language of Middle-Earth, chronology of this world and other things. Other famous book is The Hobbit, which was released before The Lord of the Rings in 1937.

Ahoj,
krásný referát :) Mně trilogie Pána prstenů chytla i další její části a s tím i jejich autor, pan J.R.R.Tolkien.
